Originally composed for a magazine sponsored competition requiring that the first movement not exceed 75 bars, Sonatine is a beautifully focused example of Maurice Ravel’s signature style. The piece’s ethereal melody delicately floats over a blend of feverish 32nd notes and lush impressionistic harmonies, enveloping both soloist and audience members in a waking dream.
