This edition of Francesco Durante’s (1684–1755) Regole e Partimenti presents Durante’s partimenti, in two volumes. This first volume, forming the initial part of his curriculum, contains Durante’s partimento rules alongside figured partimenti. These exercises were typically demonstrated by the teacher through variations in each key and enabled students to master them in multiple ways, allowing them to reapply and combine these patterns improvisationally. Durante’s partimenti offer some of the best instructional content available, with their structured yet flexible approach making them invaluable for teaching both figured bass and compositional concepts.
